Broadway: Providence's Most Elegant Street | West End Walking Tour

Broadway in Providence's West End was once the most fashionable street in the city, an 80 foot wide boulevard lined with wedding cake houses, Victorian castles, and the mansions of the merchants and industrialists who built Providence. Join me for a walk down one of the most walkable streets in one of the most walkable cities in America, where you'll see Perez Mason's wedding cake houses, the largest row house in Providence, Bell Street Chapel, the infamous Barnaby's Castle, and the house that hid a decades-old dressmaking shop frozen in time.

We'll cover Broadway's rise as a Gilded Age showcase, the decline that came with the automobile era, and the wave of immigrant families who reshaped the neighborhood, right up through the preservation efforts that saved these homes for good.
